Thirty years after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, the pain of the survivors is still great, said James Ngango, Rwanda's Permanent Representative to United Nations in Vienna, at the commemorative event.
Marie Leinualda Munyakazi lost her entire family to the 1994 genocide. She spoke out in the hopes that especially young people listen to her story and help prevent future atrocities.
Ghada Waly, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) & Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said, we must recognize and address the warning signs of conflict and genocide, and learn from past failures.
The commemoration took place on 19 April 2024 at the Vienna International Centre.
