The United Nations offers a variety of ways to join its workforce. It also offers university students opportunities to serve as interns.

Candidates for jobs in the General Service and related categories, including those in the trades and crafts, security and safety, secretarial and other support positions, are recruited locally. Vacancies are posted on the UN Careers Portal.

Competitive Examinations

The United Nations Secretariat offers the Young Professionals Programme for Junior Professionals and examinations for positions requiring special language skills.

The Young Professionals Programme aims to bring fresh talent to the United Nations from un- and under-represented countries and to recognize talent already in the Organization. To be eligible you must hold the nationality of a participating Member State at the time of application, be 32 years or younger, hold a first-level university degree, and be fluent in English or French. Internship Information

Internship vacancies for the UN Secretariat are advertised on the UN Nations Careers Portal.

To be eligible for an internship with the United Nations applicants must be enrolled graduate students. Internships last for a minimum of two to a maximum of six months. As internships are not remunerated by the United Nations Secretariat, the intern has to bear all costs for the internship themselves.

Interns at the IAEA are offered a stipend to assist with basic subsistence costs.
