SMALL ARMS
Small arms: tens of thousands of lives are lost every year because of illicit small arms and light weapons. More than 2,000 representatives from Governments, international and regional organizations and civil society gathered in New York from 26 June - 7 July 2006 to take part in the
United Nations Conference to Review Progress Made in the Implementation of the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects.
A guitar made from a shotgun was played at a
special concert to inaugurate an art exhibition on the sidelines of the conference organized by the Permanent Mission of Colombia to the UN in New York and International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA).
The art exhibition entitled:
'Crush the Illicit Trade in Small Arms' was made possible with contributions from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the UN Departments of Public Information and Disarmament Affairs, the United Nations Children's Fund, the United Nations Development Programme, European Union's Assistance in Curbing Small Arms and Light Weapons, the School of Visual Arms and Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd.
