Media Accreditation to the Vienna International Centre
Bona fide representatives of the media - press, photo, radio, television and film - can be accredited to the Vienna International Centre (VIC) and therefore to all UN conferences in Vienna.
Applicants need to provide the following:
- A letter of assignment on official letterhead of a media organization from the Publisher/Editor or Bureau Chief. It should specify the name and functional title of the journalist and the period of coverage at the United Nations in Vienna.
- A valid press card (national or international)
- Print media representatives may be required to submit copies of two recent issues of their publication.
- Online media are required to provide a record of writing on international issues.
- Independent production companies are required to provide a letter from their broadcast organization.
- Photographers may be required to submit original tear sheets of photos with credits of the organization.
The applicant has to fill out the 'Request for accreditation of media representatives to the Vienna International Centre'. Media credentials are issued by the United Nations free of charge.
Applicants are advised to make an appointment prior to their visit to avoid any complications upon their entry to the VIC.
Media accreditation is valid until November of the current calendar year and needs to be extended every year. Journalists are required to apply in person for the extension of accreditation, to bring along a letter of assignment and a valid press card and they should be prepared to provide evidence of regular coverage of United Nations issues. The Security and Safety Service which issues the ground passes also needs to see the applicant's national passport.
UNIS offers a press working area in the Vienna International Centre in C03 next to the press briefing room.
