    UNODC Executive Director condemns "senseless and cowardly" attack on civilians in Kabul restaurant

    VIENNA, 18 January (UN Information Service) - The following is a statement from the Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Yury Fedotov, following the 17th January attack on a busy Restaurant in Kabul.

    "I strongly condemn this senseless and cowardly attack on innocent civilians, some of whom were fellow UN staff members. I offer my sincerest condolences to the injured and to  the families, friends and colleagues of all those who have tragically lost their lives. "

    According to reports, at least 16 people have been confirmed dead, including 4 international UN staff, However, there are indications of a greater death toll with  more than 20 people dead, and many others seriously injured.
