    UNDCP  “Civic Ambassador to Italy”

VIENNA, 8 March - The Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention (ODCCP), Mr. Pino Arlacchi, has appointed Ms. Letizia Moratti as United Nations International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP)  “Civic Ambassador to Italy” for the year 2000, at a ceremony held here on 8 March 2000.

In designating Ms. Moratti as the UNDCP “Civic Ambassador to Italy”, Pino Arlacchi highlighted the great commitment and interest she has shown in drug related issues and in the problem of drug abuse in Italy. Due to this commitment, Letizia Moratti  has been called upon to join the Directorate of Rainbow International Association Against Drugs.  This association unites more than 100 communities and voluntary organisations from around the world, working with adolescent drug addicts, helping them to reintegrate into society, to regain their dignity and defend their freedom from any form of drug abuse.

“For your continuous and valuable engagement in the fight against drug addiction and your sustainment of the Rainbow International Association, it is an honour for me today to nominate you as Civic Ambassador to Italy and welcome you to our big family. It is together with personalities such as Letizia Moratti,  that UNDCP desires to win the common battle against drugs and the suffering of many,” stressed Pino Arlacchi at today’s ceremony.
