  Dr. R. K. Pachauri,
Chairman of the IPCC will address the briefing.

  Other IPCC experts will also be available to answer questions.

This IPCC session is taking place at a time when global interest in climate change has been aroused by extreme weather conditions experienced in several parts of the world. The Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) of the IPCC will be completed in 2007, and is being planned with a number of new features that would ensure greater policy relevance in the assessment to be produced.

The plenary being held this week in Vienna would provide guidance to the AR4 with greater attention to a regional focus, incorporation of a set of important cross-cutting issues and greater consistency across the reports of the three Working Groups.

  Staff of the VIC-based Organizations, representatives of the media, Permanent Missions and NGO representatives are all welcome to attend the Briefing.
