UNODC to Launch Global Report on Trafficking in Persons

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will launch a global report on human trafficking on 12 February. It offers an unprecedented view of the scope of human trafficking and what is being done to fight it, including global trafficking patterns; legal steps taken in response; and country profiles.
The media are invited to a press briefing by Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director of UNODC, during the regular noon briefing of the UN Spokesperson. The briefing will cover a range of trafficking-related issues including:
- the main forms of human trafficking
- conviction rates
- trafficking patterns
- getting a clearer picture of the crime
A panel discussion will follow in the ECOSOC Chamber from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino will be appointed UNODC Goodwill Ambassador on human trafficking. All accredited and non-UN accredited press are welcome. (Details below).
